Today I have for you my review of Vampire Baby by Kelly Bennett with one of my daughters, Madison, also co-reviewing with me. I found that she had actually picked it up earlier and had read it herself. For my reading of it, I read it to her. I wish you could have heard our conversation because it was quite funny.
(She thought that her reviewing it was me going to make her read it to young children and she was ready to run for the hills.)
Synopsis
When
Tootie gets her first teeth, it’s clear to her big brother that she’s no
ordinary baby. But how to convince Mom and Dad?
It happens overnight: little sister Tootie goes from cuddly, ga-ga-googoo, I-want-my-ba-ba baby...vampire baby. Now she’s sinking her pointy fangs into everything — furniture, toys, and especially her big brother ("Youch, Tootie! No bite!" ). Mom insists that it’s just a phase, but Tootie’s brother knows better. Just look at her hairline! Or the fact that all her favorite foods are bloodred!

With perfect comic timing, Kelly Bennett and Paul Meisel
give a fresh slant to the new-baby story, proving that even monstrous little
arrivals have a funny way of staking their siblings’ affections.

My Review
First I wish to thank the author and publisher for providing me a print copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am a lover of books and have been since I was a little girl. I can't remember my mother ever reading to me, but my earliest memories of are me having a trunk full of Golden Books, Arch Books and picture books in all shapes and sizes. I tried ready to my first born, but she never wanted me to. Luckily, my twins loved being read to, especially Madison. I can honestly say that I've read my fair share of children's books and it was quite an honor to be able to read Vampire Baby.
First off, this is NOT a scary book. Don't think that getting your child this book will give them nightmares because it will not. It's fun, silly, charming and touching. The premise is simple, the younger sibling is basically annoying their older one to no end and he's ready to find a new home for her until he realizes just how much she does mean to him. As the youngest child in a family I've been on that side, my sister wanted to exchange me for the little boy that lived down the street. Sometimes I think she still wishes she could have.
Now, just because of that storyline doesn't mean that there has to be an issue going on between siblings. This is a cute story and any child would love the pictures and story, even one without siblings. I recommend this picture book to every child and feel that it's a good choice for any parent to read and share with their child or another's.
Madison's Review
I thought the book was cute. The name of the girl in the book made it even sillier and I liked that. I liked the pictures and the story. It was fun and made me laugh. I have three brothers and sisters and we don't always get along and bother each other but we will always be friends in the end.
Two Thumbs Up
